3-DAYS “DIRECTORS’ TRAINING PROGRAM (DTP) FOR STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES (SOES)”

The Executive Development Institute (EDI) of the National School of Public Policy (NSPP), Lahore, is focused on enhancing the continuous professional development of officers and executives across public and private sectors. EDI designs short training programs that provide a comprehensive viewpoint by engaging professionals from government, industry, and civil society, including academia. Recently, EDI conducted Pakistan’s first-ever 3-day “Directors’ Training Program (DTP) for State-Owned Enterprises” from Monday 10th to Wednesday 12th February 2025.

Hon’ble Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives,  Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the program at NSPP, stressing the importance of corporate governance to equip leaders with the skills necessary to address 21st-century policy challenges. Mr. Ahmad Nazir Warraich, Dean EDI, highlighted the State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Act 2023 and State Owned Enterprises (Ownership and Management) Policy 2023, which requires all SOE Directors to complete the Directors’ Training Program for SOEs to enhance their skills in corporate governance and financial stewardship.

The program was carefully designed in the light of SECP guidelines and covered essential topics such as the principles of corporate governance, directors’ duties, the role of government, and competitive neutrality. This successful training included participation from numerous civil servants, executives from SOEs, and the Private Sector. The speakers included Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Former SAPM to the Prime Minister and Former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Tariq Bajwa, Former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and Mr. Zafar Masud, President and CEO of the Bank of Punjab, among others. Participants actively engaged in discussions with the speakers and with each other during the networking sessions.

This DTP for SOEs will enhance corporate governance in SOEs and provide the necessary skills to executives to navigate new laws, regulations, and challenges.
